Jules Porter is a business litigation attorney based in Saint Paul, Minnesota and Colorado Springs, Colorado. She represents franchisees and small business owners in disputes where the outcome changes their lives. Jules built a company of her own, so the position her clients are in is familiar to her. She knows what it is to take the risk, sign an agreement drafted by a much larger party, and then have to defend what she built.

Her work centers on commercial contracts, business litigation, negotiation, and corporate governance. Most of her best outcomes have never required a trial. She confers directly with opposing counsel to narrow the issues early, sets expectations with her clients at the start rather than at the end, and works toward resolutions clients feel are valuable for the length of the relationship. When the other side will not deal in good faith, she stands ready to litigate. Jules also teaches business law, entrepreneurship, intellectual property law, and artificial intelligence and regulatory law as an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas. Translating a dense agreement into plain English is not just a favor she does for clients, it is a governing policy she also teaches the next generation of lawyers and business leaders.

Jules served in the United States Marine Corps as a mechanical engineer and then as a diplomatic security officer, holding a Top Secret clearance while protecting embassies, diplomats, and classified material in Asia, South America, and Europe. She then earned both her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Jules also holds a BS in Aeronautics and a BA in Theology. She spent three years as a judicial law clerk in Minnesota’s First Judicial District, drafting hundreds of orders, decisions, and jury instructions for three district court judges, and learning how a court reads an agreement once the deal has gone wrong. She has since handled contested matters from intake through resolution, and she founded a video game studio, negotiating platform, publishing, and licensing agreements with companies many times its size.

Outside the office, Jules builds video games, writes poetry, rocks out to seventies funk, rock, and soul, and cheers for the Minnesota Vikings.
